Seedling production

KEFAG Zrt is the main forest seedling producer on the Great Hungarian Plain and it has a significant national role as a seedling producer of Austrian pine, white poplar and black locust as well. At present, KEFAG Zrt operates 12 nurseries with more than 170 hectares suitable for production, 45-70% of which is used for eedlings and stoolbed. The remaining land is left fallow or is used for game forage production.

Recent technical improvements in seedling production have allowed for the unification of production technologies. The high-level irrigation system installed in our nurseries ensures high-quality production. 60% of the produced seedlings are used for our forest regeneration and afforestation activities and 40% are sold.

The seedling marketing has been characterized by significant fluctuations in production, as well as frequent company turn-over in recent years.
An exceedingly competitive market has developed around the easily produced black locust and hybrid poplar. Renewed interest in afforestation has had a beneficial effect on the internal market, while export possibilities have been decreased.
