Research

One of our company’s priorities is research activity. In 1996, the Forestry Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and our company established the Centre for the Cultivation of Forest Progeny (ESZTK) with the purpose of advancing scientific and practical developments in the fields of seed management and forestry technology, and to establish and maintain seed and planting material resources for the Great Plain.

According to the original aims, the main activities of the Centre are forest seed testing and the improvement of genetically valuable planting stocks. In order to fulfil the main goals, a seed laboratory suitable for large-scale and commercial seed tests, an experimental nursery, a gene archive adequate for establishing seed-producing orchards, a mycorrhiza laboratory and a soil laboratory have been established. Our success stories include the national wild fruit species gene conservation program, the development of a method for the one-year storage of white poplar seeds, the development of a controlled mycorrhiza treatment for seedlings and the establishment of the first experimental plantation of treated seedlings.
