Mélykúti Wild Boar Park

The 600 hectare game reserve lies where the Danube-Tisza Interfluve Ridge (Duna-Tisza közi Hátság) and the North Bácska Loess Ridge (Észak-bácskai löszhát) meet. The hunting grounds comprise of forests (86%) and cultivated land (16%) with the remaining 1% not suitable for game reserve purposes.

KEFAG Zrt. was granted the area Sept 1, 1993. With the construction of a fence network and the facilities required, 1996 saw the official launch of the reserve. We currently have a wild boar count of 270-300. The red deer population is stable with a small fluctuation due to the operations of local hunting societies. We started breeding fallow deer in the area in 2000 and currently have a population of 50-70. The roe deer population is not significant.

Harvest figures Hunting seasons usually see 150-200 wild boars harvested (35% male) on the 2-3 designated hunting days. Individual hunts result in the harvesting of 2-3 red deer stags, 5-7 hinds, 4-6 fallow deer stags, 10-15 fallow deer does, 3 roe deer stags, 6 roe deer does approxiamtely.

Apart from hunting, the area provides countless natural beauties and cultural sights like the 300-hundred year old St. Anne church, the Ópusztaszer National History Park and spas in Kiskunmajsa, Kiskunhalas and Mórahalom.

Hunting areas of theKerekegyháza and Nyíri Forests

Two hunting areas can be found in the territory of the North-Kiskunság Forestry Management Unit, the hunting areas of the Kerekegyháza forest and the Nyíri forest.

The Kerekegyház hunting area is 6 231ha. The plains area is dominated by agricultural fields, meadows, sandy grasslands and wooded dunes.

The forest cover of the hunting area is 60%, providing diverse habitats for wildlife.

Huntable species: roe deer, wild boar, hare, pheasant and woodcock. It is a big game hunting area with decreasing small game populations. The quantity and quality of the wild boar population is significant in the region and tusk length may exceed 20cm. The area is suitable for stalking and laying-in-wait. The sandy soil forest provides habitatfor roe deer and a small fallow deer population of medium-quality. The average weight of roe deer trophies is 250-300g.

Forest patches of the former lily-of-the-valley and steppe oak forests, as well as cultivated forests typical of the Danube-Tisza Interfluve, are found in the core area of the 2 777-hectare Nyíri forest. The forest cover is 49% and at the centre of the area is a 1235-ha enclosure.

Game for hunting: roe deer, fallow deer, wild boar, red deer, hare and pheasant. The highest-quality fallow deer population of the region is found in the enclosure. Fallow deer appeared here at the beginning of the 18th century. Wild boar is of significant importance as well.
